Asturias consumes more fish than any other Spanish province

Desserts

Of all the Spanish regions, Asturias is the one that consumes the most fish, according to a report prepared by the FROM, (Fund for the Regulation and Organization of the Market of Fishing Products and Marine Cultures), Asturias is a Spanish reference in terms of the consumption of Fish is concerned, whether fresh or frozen, in fact, they consume up to twice the national average.

Hake, sardines or squid are the favorite species of Asturians, however, the consumption of prawns is up to 20% lower than the average for the rest of the country. Regarding the high consumption in general, we agree with the FROM, perhaps it has something to do with the proximity of the fishing grounds that allows the fish to reach Asturian homes in a few hours, allowing a great freshness of the product. This situation notably benefits Asturians, since the high consumption of oily fish provides them with a heart-healthy diet.Despite the fact that Spain is one of the countries that consumes the most fish, about 37 kilos per year per person, it is well below countries like Japan or Norway where the average per year per person is 90 kilos.

Consuming the recommended amount of fish weekly is important for the proper functioning of our body in many ways, we should take the example of Asturians, although it is also true that many Spanish provinces still have difficulties in getting fish as fresh as it is in Asturias.
