In my particular case I used Jerez wine and the result has been fabulous. It reminds me a lot of a sponge cake that I have posted on my chocolate and whiskey blog. It does not really distinguish if it has wine or other liquor, but please use a good quality one, however you prepare it.


For 6 people
  • Butter at room temperature 165 g
  • Sugar 150 g
  • Egg M 3
  • Biscuit flour with yeast 165 g
  • Pure cocoa powder 15 g
  • Red wine 65 ml
  • Ground cinnamon a pinch
  • Pinch
  • Diced dark chocolate 50 g

How to make red wine cake with chocolate chips

We heat the oven to 180ºC with heat up and down without air. Grease and flour a 20 cm diameter round mold. Beat the butter with the sugar until it forms a smooth cream. Add the eggs one by one, taking care to beat the first well before adding the next.

We sift the flour together with the cocoa, the cinnamon and the salt and we toss the whole alternating it with the wine. Stir well with a pastry tongue and finally incorporate the chocolate chips. Mix so that the pieces are spread over the dough and pour it into the mold.

Bake for about 35 minutes, more or less, until the cake is done. Remove from the oven, leave in the mold for 10 minutes, remove from it, and wait for the cake to cool completely on a rack.

What to accompany the red wine cake with chocolate chips

Chocolate chip red wine cake should be treated like any other and kept away from air or moisture. Well wrapped in transparent kitchen film it can last you several days. It is a very juicy dessert, so it holds perfectly.
