I filled mine with chocolate caramels, but being a recipe for Valentine's Day you can take advantage to hide some more impressive gift. As a friend of mine says "something small but very valuable." I leave it there.

Ingredients for 4 boxes (depending on the size of the mold):

  • 115 g of unsalted butter at room temperature, 220 g of sugar, 4 large eggs, 80 g of cocoa powder, 1 pinch of salt, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, 95 g of flour, 1 cup of chocolate chips and caramels or chocolates to put inside the box.

How to make chocolate brownie surprise boxes

We start preheating the oven to 180ºC. Afterwards, lightly grease a rectangular tray that can go to the oven and reserve it. Beat the butter with the sugar until the mixture blanches. Add the eggs one by one, beating well after adding each one.

Besides, we sift the flour with the cocoa, the salt and the yeast, add to the butter and sugar mixture together with the vanilla essence and mix with some rods, making enveloping movements. Add the chocolate chips and mix again.

We pour the mixture into the reserved mold. Bake the brownies about 25 minutes, until inserting a toothpick it comes out clean. The brownie should be seated at the edges and moist in the center, but not raw. We remove from the oven and let it cool slightly on a rack.

With the help of a heart-shaped cutter, we cut hearts from the brownie dough. We put each heart in the mold and press to take shape, we leave them until they cool completely. We remove them carefully, so that they do not break. We fill them and put them two by two with a little melted chocolate.
