Plum crumble, the most delicious traditional British recipe

Plum crumble is arguably the most delicious traditional British recipe. That layer of baked fruit with the crunchy mix of sweet crumbs on the surface make this dessert a delicacy. We can accompany it with a splash of English cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

It is a great way to get those who are not too fond of plums to eat them, although we can use other fruits such as apples, strawberries, blueberries, pears, blackberries or any other that responds well to cooking. The plum crumble is so easy to make and so delicious that you will want to do it often.

  • Butter very cold 100 g

How to make plum crumble

Difficulty: easy
  • Total time 50 m
  • Elaboration 20 m
  • Cooking 30 m

We begin by making the crumble mixture, so we can let it rest in the cold for a few minutes before needing it to cover the fruit. To do this, mix the flour, sugar and diced butter in a bowl. We work with the fingertips until homogeneous and achieve a texture similar to crumbs. We let it rest in the fridge.

Meanwhile, we peel the plums and cut them into segments as similar in size as possible. In this way, all the pieces will be cooked equally, without leaving any harder than the other. We place the plum in a small baking dish. If the plums are too acidic, we sprinkle with a tablespoon of sugar (although this is totally optional).

Mix the sweet white wine with the cornmeal, stirring so that there are no lumps, and pour it over the plum. We spread the crumble over the plum, trying to cover the entire surface. We introduce the source in a pre-heated oven at 180 ºC and cook for 30 minutes or until the surface turns golden. Let it rest for a few minutes before serving.

With what to accompany the plum crumble

Although it can be eaten cold, the best way to enjoy the plum crumble is freshly made, when it is still warm or warm. The crumble is crisp and at its optimum texture. For an authentic British experience, try pairing it with a splash of cream, ice cream or a light pastry cream.
