Domaine Verret Irancy 2005

Desserts

Irancy is one of the northernmost areas of France where red wines are produced. Of course, with the permission of the rare Alsatian reds and the even rarer pinots of the Côteau Champenoise.

The appellation extends around the town of Irancy, in the Yonne department, very close to the town d'Auxerre. For you to be located, in the extreme north of Burgundy, southeast of Chablis. (See the map below)

In total, about 130 hectares of vineyards planted in the curious natural amphitheater that forms the land in the area. The main variety is, of course, Pinot Noir. But not the only one. The denomination allows up to 10% of a local and little-known variety to be included in the blend: Cesar. They say that it owes its name to the Roman legions and its new emperor, and that it was the majority in the region although today it is only cultivated on 2 scarce hectares.

The wines are usually light and fresh, with a very typical accent color. On the nose, the notes of red fruit and spices are usually the most common. Simple, honest wines, without complications, that although they will not seduce us by their complexity, nor will they reveal any great secret with their evolution, they can become good allies (especially now in summer) to accompany a good snack or light dinner based on bread with tomato and sausage, for example.

At least this Domaine Verret Irancy 2005 has done so with its initial notes of blue flowers and pink pepper. With the air, marked notes of strawberries and strawberries. A candy. On the palate, dry, light, with little tannin and a discreet and slightly bitter mid palate. Without complications. Those looking for a complex and revealing burgundy stay away from him.

I said, for a good snack.
