The aroma of tobacco in the wine

Desserts

One characteristic that some Andalusian Amontillados wines present is the aroma of black tobacco, in fact, each class of wine has a different tobacco aroma, like some white aged wines, which present notes of blond tobacco. The smell of tobacco always gives wines very pleasant and interesting aromatic nuances, pipe tobacco, English tobacco, black, blond, etc.

If a wine from a great vintage has been well aged and comes from grapes that are distinguished by very vegetal varietal scents, cabernet saugvinon and merlot, one of the characteristics that this wine will present will be an incredible tobacco perfume.

The aroma of a cigarette has little to do with the aroma of tobacco in a wine, the latter is noble and pleasant. Expert perfumers indicate that the aroma of tobacco is an exquisite aroma, even being used in the elaboration of some men's perfumes. One of the nuances that can be seen in sweet wines or highly evolved aging wines is the aroma of blond tobacco or English tobacco. The question would be, do you know what the aroma of tobacco is? For those who do not know it, we will say that this smell develops when the tobacco leaves are subjected to drying, allowing them to mature slowly. The leaves undergo fermentation and as a result of it the aroma appears, in addition, as a result of oxidation, the nicotine that the tobacco presents is reduced, which makes the aroma especially characteristic.

We are doing a small course on the aromas of wine and it is to be perplexed, according to the winemaker who teaches us, you can even perceive aromas of candied pear. Unthinkable for us at the moment to be able to detect this aroma or others that we would not have related to the wine at all.

For anyone who is starting in the world of oenology, we recommend taking a tasting course and an introduction to the oenological world through all your senses, you learn a lot about aspects of wine that you would not have imagined.
