The Galician biotechnology cluster is committed to functional foods, products that have somehow been modified and enriched with an active ingredient so that their components provide added benefits to the body.

The global growth of the market and consumption of this type of food has made, as Javier Jaime Fábregas, professor and president of the Galician cluster says, that they have set themselves the goal of trying to be leaders in this sector, which today is in the hands of United States and Japan, and at the European level by France.

The Galician biotechnology cluster was born from the initiative of 31 Galician companies, from a wide range, among which are well-known firms such as Coren, Feiraco, Bernardo Alfageme or Jealsa rianxeira. Another 24 are (Pescanova among them) are in the integration phase.
