Spain signs up for Fair Trade
An act as simple as having a chocolate, a coffee or a tea involves starting an incredible machine of international solidarity. Fair Trade (FJ) has as basic principles to provide decent wages to producers, no child exploitation, equality between men and women, respect for the environment and labor rights.
Spain signs up for Fair Trade and, although we are eighth in Europe among the 15 most consuming countries with 2.2% of total sales (far from Germany, Switzerland or the United Kingdom), our growth rate is the most high of Europe. CJ's foods can be up to 20% more expensive, but they have higher quality and give more benefit to their producers by avoiding intermediaries. The products sold in Spain come from Belgium, Germany or Switzerland (the largest consumers of these products in Europe) that produce the raw material from the Third World.
If you have a jpgt left to do, or you want to eat healthier food, it is a good time to approach these types of establishments.
