German-style baked beef stew. Recipe

Most of the time, steak meat baffles me when I don't know what to prepare for the daily menu. With little work you get food for a few, which reheats or freezes perfectly, so this type of dish, especially in the winter, usually falls once a week in my house.

But in order not to always make the same recipe for stewed meat, I try to vary, so sometimes it goes in a traditional casserole, other times in an express pot and sometimes in the oven. Today I opted for the latter and I bring you a German-style baked beef stew. I must confess that I do not know if this stew is used in Germany, but I have called it that because of the abundance of beer in its sauce.

  • Beef stew 600 g
  • Pastry flour 30 g
  • Extra virgin olive oil 30 ml
  • Onion 1
  • German beer 330 ml
  • Brown sugar 20 g
  • Tomato concentrate 15 g
  • Meat broth 500 ml
  • Salt and pepper to taste

How to make German-style baked beef stew

We will start by cutting the meat into cubes, season it and sprinkle it with the flour. Heat the oil or butter in a frying pan and brown the pieces of meat. Once they are sautéed, separate them to a plate and brown the chopped onion. Once fried, add the meat and onion to a baking dish. We reserve.

Preheat the oven to 170 degrees. In a saucepan we mix the beer, brown sugar, tomato paste and meat broth, bring everything to a boil, pour over the meat, which must cover it and bake it for two hours or until the prick is tender.

What to accompany the German-style baked beef stew

When I make this German-style baked beef stew, I always make twice as much. Just a bigger tray, double the ingredients and the same oven time, and we already have a great freezing dish prepared for when we need it. Accompany this stew with some baked potatoes and enjoy a rich, rich stew.
