The legend of the tortellini
According to a legend, the creator of the tortellini was the owner of a hostel in the city of Castelfranco (Italy). A beautiful lady came to the hostel who caused a pleasant sensation in the innkeeper who without hesitation, at nightfall, decided to spy on the lady through the lock to be able to observe how she undressed.
What her eyes saw made him go into ecstasy and he felt irresistibly driven towards the kitchen to be able to gastronomically reproduce the part of the woman's body that had most fascinated him. It was about the navel, this is how the legend tells that the tortellini or also called Navel of Venús were born. Every year this legend is reproduced through a great popular festival in the city of Castelfranco. It is staged with all kinds of details, period costumes and sets faithful to the legend. The voyeur chef has gone down in history thanks to the vision of a peculiar navel.
So every time we enjoy the delicious tortellini, we are evoking the navel of that lady. Whether or not it is true, the truth is that it is an ideal reason to celebrate the peculiar festival of the tortellini which they call in Italy, La Sagra del Tortellino.
