Homemade liqueurs: Limoncello

This year I decided that this Christmas I would make an artisan jpgt to the adults of the family. Something without many complications, that I could do in the kitchen of my house and that also was not excessively expensive. After thinking about it a lot and studying the different possibilities it had, I decided to make a homemade limoncello.

This is a liquor that is made by infusion, so it is not necessary to have any type of special device, the ingredients are easy to obtain and it does not require too much attention on our part. In fact, the most complicated part of the whole process, perhaps it is to think how I am going to "dress" and decorate the bottles, so that they are very beautiful.


1 liter of vodka, 3/4 of a liter of water, 750 grams of sugar, 10 lemons.

How to make limoncello

We wash the lemons very well, even using a nail brush to leave the skin completely clean. With the help of a potato peeler, we remove the peel of the lemons, trying not to drag too much white part.

We are putting the shells in a glass jar that we can cover. On the shells we pour the vodka, cover the jar and store it in the pantry, the kitchen cupboard or anywhere, dry and dark for 5 to 7 days.

After this time we put a pot on the fire with the water and the sugar, when the sugar is completely dissolved, we remove it from the heat and let it cool.

When the syrup is cold, in a large jar or container, we mix it with the infused vodka and without the peels. We close the container and let it rest for 24 hours.

Using a cloth strainer, filter the limoncello and pack.

In this case and as it is liquor to give away, one of the things that we are going to worry about is finding some beautiful bottles for our limoncello and seeing how we are going to decorate it.

Of course the best way to taste this liquor is very cold straight from the fridge or even the freezer.
