Pears in puff pastry stuffed with walnuts: dessert or snack recipe to look good without getting complicated


I have always said that it is worth having a good puff pastry and apples in the pantry in the freezer, since they are two ingredients with which we can prepare many emergency desserts in a jiffy. However, lately I like more to bake with other fruit, like in this recipe for pears in puff pastry stuffed with walnuts.

Simply wrapping each fruit in puff pastry and preparing a simple filling we can have a delicious dessert ideal for a winter day that can also be enjoyed cold. Roasted apples are delicious, yes, but pears are also a good option to vary. The nuts in the filling can be exchanged for almonds or hazelnuts.

  • Medium, seasonal, slightly ripe pear 1
  • Lemon juice 5 ml
  • Coarsely chopped or ground walnuts 10 g
  • 1-2 teaspoons brown sugar
  • Greek yogurt or cream cheese 15 ml
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch ground nutmeg
  • Puff pastry 1
  • Egg 1

How to make pears in puff pastry stuffed with walnuts

Preheat the oven to 200ºC. Wash the pear well. It can be peeled or left as is, if we like the skin and it is finite. If we peel it, paint with lemon juice.Cut the tail and remove the heart with a corer or with a knife and a teaspoon, taking care not to break the bottom.

Cut the base slightly if it is too uneven, so that it can remain seated Mix the walnuts in a bowl with a few drops of lemon juice, brown sugar, yogurt or cream cheese, cinnamon and nutmeg. Fill the pear with this mixture, pressing well.

Line a platter or tray with parchment paper or grease well with butter. Roll out the puff pastry and place on top of the pear. Wrap with the dough, pressing well so that it adheres to the fruit, and cut the rest. Leftover tail or leaf can be shaped to decorate. Place in the source and brush with beaten egg. Bake for 20-30 minutes, depending on the size.

I love to serve pears in puff pastry stuffed with freshly made walnuts, when when splitting them so hot, that delicious smoky aroma comes out of them. To turn them into a more sweet dessert, we can accompany them with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, English cream or a chocolate sauce.
