Italian peppers stuffed with ham and cheese: recipe

Italian peppers seem like a very attractive alternative to the typical green peppers since they have a slightly sweeter flavor that will give a different touch to any dish you prepare with them. For our Mexican friends who are living in Europe, let me tell you that this pepper is very close to the poblano pepper. Although it is not exactly the same, it is the closest thing if you want to make a recipe similar to a chile filled. Keep an eye on it as you will be amazed at the similarities once you prepare it.

Today I invite you to prepare this recipe for Italian peppers stuffed with ham and cheese that are a delight this summer season. You can serve them alone as a plate and in this case you can accompany it with rice. You can also use them as a garnish for some roast meat, taking advantage of the fact that you may have the barbecue in the garden or on the terrace.

How to make Italian peppers stuffed with ham and cheese

Difficulty: Medium
  • Total time 1 h 15 min
  • Elaboration 15 m
  • Cooking 1 hour

To begin, we are going to place the peppers in a pan covered with a sheet of aluminum foil to roast them for approximately 20 minutes. After 10 minutes we can turn them over so that they grill well on all sides. When they are almost burned, we remove them from the fire and place them in a closed plastic bag for about 10 minutes. We take them out of the bag and remove as much skin as possible. We open the peppers and devein them.

While the peppers are on the fire we are going to put the tomatoes cut in four in the blender along with half the onion, the water, salt and pepper. Blend well and pour this into a pot with a few drops of olive oil. We let it reach the boiling point, we lower the fire to the minimum and we leave it for another 15 minutes.

Now we are going to chop the remaining half of the onion as well as the mozzarella cheese and the ham. Season with salt and pepper to taste and mix everything well. We fill the peppers with this preparation. As we fill them, we place them on a baking sheet. We bake them at 160ºC for about 25 minutes.
