Christmas Recipe for Apple Cream Cheese Strudel
I have always liked strudel, especially cream, and also those with a huge layer of meringue and covered in icing sugar. Eating them was an adventure. But I wanted to make a homemade version giving another air to this classic cake, so here you have this Christmas recipe for strudel cheese cream and apple.
Ingredients for 4 large strudel
- 1 sheet of frozen puff pastry, homemade pastry cream, homemade applesauce, icing sugar and berries to decorate
- For the compote, 2 red apples, a tablespoon of sugar and a drizzle of water.
- For the cheese pastry cream, 125 ml of milk, 125 of liquid cream, 2 eggs, 50 gr of cornstarch and 100 gr of sugar and a tub of cream cheese.
How to Make the Apple Cream Cheese Strudel Christmas Recipe
To prepare the three sheets of puff pastry that each strudel has, we preheat the oven to 180º and stretch the sheet of puff pastry a little once it has thawed, we prick it with a fork to prevent it from rising too high, and cut it into sheets, which then we cut again into 12 rectangles.
In the oven tray, we put baking paper and place the pieces of the puff pastry, covering them with another oven paper and another tray, to get them to lay flat. Bake 10 minutes covered, and another 10 removing the tray and turning the pieces so that they are baked evenly.
Meanwhile, we prepare a pastry cream, heating the milk, with the liquid cream and sugar. We dissolve the cornstarch in a little milk, and add the beaten eggs. When the milk boils, add the cornstarch with the egg shake and stir with the rod until it thickens. When we have the cream done we add the cream cheese tub and let it integrate well and reserve.
While the cream cools, we also make a light applesauce by cooking the chopped apples. After 15 minutes we crush them, add the sugar and cook for two more minutes. We reserve until the compote is very cold and thick.
When the puff pastry sheets cool, we mount the cakes with a little homemade applesauce on the bottom, and cheese pastry cream on the top, placing a puff pastry sheet between both layers and covering with a last layer of puff pastry to complete the strudel. Now all you need to do is sprinkle with a little icing sugar and decorate with some mint leaves and some red berries, so typical of Christmas dates.
