A KitKat flavored like cough drops. How far will we go?
We already know that the popular Nestlé snack that we know in Europe in its white chocolate and milk chocolate versions, has in Japan the most unusual number of variants with all kinds of flavors. After the green tea KitKat or the red bean KitKat, now comes the KitKat flavored with cough drops - how far are we going to go? -, which for the moment will only be marketed in that Asian country.
I find it fun to make versions of classic chocolates and desserts, to make a special edition to try a launch, introducing cocoa or peanut butter between the fillings, or to try to introduce lemon curd and other citrus flavors to surprise us, but this idea The medicinal flavor seems like a real folly to me, for several reasons.
The first thing is that in a gastronomic sense, the taste of medicine, as rich as some may find drinking cough syrups or minty lozenges, does not seem very successful. Perhaps they have wanted to approach that mixture of chocolate and mint of the traditional After Eight and have thought that this combination of chocolate and active ingredients with a refreshing effect can work just as well.
The second thing that I didn't like is that it seems to associate medicinal themes with themes of pleasure or gourmet whim and it can induce people to take more pills than is convenient for them or a drink from the syrup bottle when they do not have the chocolate.
For the moment, for its launch they have made a video in which the Japanese sports program announcer Yasutaro Matsuki makes the launch campaign, in addition to lending his image for the product launch.
According to the information I have been able to find, each serving contains just over two grams of ground cough drops, and it does not seem to be by chance, since the reason for the launch of this new flavor is made to coincide with the classification phase of the teams from the Asian continent for the final phase of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia.
The argument is that this type of chocolates that contain among their ingredients cough drops, will come in handy for Asian hooligans to suffocate their throats after frying supporting their teams in each game.
This KitKat flavored cough drops has been on sale in all kinds of stores in Japan, since last August 21 and will be kept until September 10. It doesn't seem like it is going to come to our country, but as I have been saying, it has not seemed an attractive or appealing idea. What do you think? Would you try it?
