Wine from Mallorca, a new identity stamp that will tread hard

Desserts

A new hallmark of Mallorcan wine will be launched and distributed for the next season of 2007 under the name Vino de Mallorca. It is not a new Designation of Origin, what is intended with this new brand is that it is easy to recognize and promote the wines that are made on that island. It may give the impression that they are trying to uncheck the new geographical indication that we talked about not long ago, Indicación de Vinos, Viñedos de España, although this is not the case.

The producers want their wines to have their identity, it is a way of uniting the efforts of small and medium producers so that their wines can stand out in the wide and competitive oenological market. At the moment the prospects for the island are good, although most of the production will be consumed by other countries, it is expected that up to one million bottles will be distributed in Germany, Poland, Hungary, the United Kingdom and the Peninsula, although the latter two in less measure. Have you tried Mallorcan wine? They are good wines that enjoy high quality, made mainly with the Manto negro, Callet and Prensal classes, the pity is that Mallorcan wines have been somewhat neglected by those of us who live on the peninsula but they deserve that let's focus a little more attention on them. We have enjoyed the characteristics provided by a wine from the Jaume Mesquida Winery, a 2001 merlot red that perfectly accompanied the food we enjoyed.

But returning to the subject, in any case we hope that this new initiative can help promote the wines that are made in that land. In September, the gastronomy of the islands will be announced in London and especially the wide range of Mallorcan wines that wine lovers can enjoy.
